Fox Thermal mass flow meters provide accurate, reliable gas flow rate monitoring for wastewater treatment plants:
Anaerobic bacteria used to break down solid material in a sludge digester tank must be maintained at the right temperature to optimize the process.
The flow of oxygen fed into aeration tanks must be monitored and then compared to water sample data to find oxygen transfer inefficiencies.
Despite a wide range of flow rates, thermal mass flow meters maintain accurate measurement of digester biogas for capture, storage, and use in heat exchangers or boilers.
The FT1 is a cost-effective digester gas flow meter model that comes with both the Gas-SelectX® and CAL-V™ calibration validation features. These allow the gas composition settings to be changed and also verified in the field. When DC power is required, the FT1 is the right flow meter to order.
The Fox Thermal Model FT2A gas flow meter has a large selection of communication protocol options available, including BACnet MS/TP, RS485 Modbus RTU, Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, or Ethernet Modbus TCP. It is NEMA 4X approved for hazardous locations.
The FT4X flow meter measures digester gas flow rate/total and temperature. It comes with a BLM accuracy-compliant data logger which maintains a 7-year history. Includes Gas-SelectX® & CAL-V™ features. Choose the FT4X when AC power or a remote configuration is required.
Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) use large heated digester tanks to remove and dispose of solid waste material. Biogas is produced when solid waste's organic matter decomposes without oxygen (anaerobic).
Biogas generally consists of about 70% methane and 30% carbon dioxide (CO2). Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that remains in the atmosphere for approximately 9 to 15 years. As a primary constituent of natural gas, methane is a valuable energy source that can be used to power heat exchangers or boilers. Any unused gas may be flared following EPA or other greenhouse gas regulations.
Because of their wide turndown and no-moving parts design, thermal mass flow meters are commonly used to monitor biogas. Fox Thermal mass flow meters can accurately measure biogas flow rates in wastewater treatment facilities to optimize digester processes, comply with environmental regulations (40 CFR Part 98 Subpart II), and control fuel and airflow ratios in biogas combustion processes.
Help Me Choose A Flow MeterIn wastewater aeration pools, one of the most important factors for proper treatment is determining how much air volume in standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) will be needed to deliver the mass of air required for optimal bacterial biodegradation of organic matter.
WWTPs use mass flow meters to locate and eliminate failures or inefficiencies in blowers or air compressors. They also can be used for detecting clogged diffusers and aspirated mixers.
As wastewater digester gas flow compositions change over time, flow meters must be sent back to the factory to be recalibrated. But not with the Gas-SelectX® feature, available on Fox Thermal mass flow meter models FT1, FT4A, and FT4X.
With the Gas-SelectX® feature, users can change the settings to match the new gas composition in the field without removing the flow meter from the process. Once the setting is changed, the flow meter’s NIST-standard calibration can be verified in situ using the CAL-V™calibration validation feature.
For wastewater digester gas flow meters, the FT1 and the FT4X are the most commonly used. When DC power is required, the FT1 is the best choice, and when AC power or a remote configuration is required, the FT4X is the right model
If you’re not sure which flow meter is right for your needs, our Help Me Choose app walks you through a short series of questions to help you choose the ideal meter.
Simply enter your digester process data and measurement requirements into our automated thermal mass flow meter configurator. Drop-down menus and Help icons will guide you to answer each question.
Save the data you entered into the configurator to create a PDF with a model code and application ID. When you're ready, submit your application to the team at Fox Thermal for a quote.
The GasSelectX feature makes the FT1, FT4A, and FT4X the only thermal mass flow meters that can be reconfigured in the field and still maintain their factory-specified accuracy.
Thermal mass flow meters help analyze demand, improve efficiency, and reduce waste.
Monitoring biogas to turn emissions into fuel or carbon credits.
Industrial gas flow meters must be rugged, packed with features and options, and ready to measure out of the box. Plant operators must often keep the process gas flow uninterrupted in order to keep production running.
Industrial gas mass flow meters by Fox Thermal provide easy installation with either insertion or inline style meters. This type of meter operates with no moving parts and offers a wide measurement range (up to 1,000:1, 100:1 typical).
View Industrial ApplicationsThe demand for natural gas has led to offshore exploration and horizontal fraction drilling. The flowback from shale oil plays has many different components that must undergo a process to separate the water/chemical solution from the oil and gas components.
Fox Thermal mass flow meters can accurately measure gas components for accounting and allocation purposes and can monitor exhaust and vent gases for environmental impact.
View Oil & Gas ApplicationsIndustrial customers of all types rely on specialty gas producers to supply them with the pure or mixed gases that they need for their processes. Thermal gas mass flow meters from Fox Thermal can help specialty gas producers and industrial process facilities maintain a leak-free system.
Whether used for transfer or submetering of gases such as nitrogen, argon, ethane, helium, and oxygen, thermal mass flow meters are a cost-effective and accurate solution for monitoring the flow of gases.
View Pure Gas ApplicationsFlow meters are increasingly being used to help companies meet the emissions criteria for the environmental goals their companies have established as part of their larger Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs. Thermal mass flow meters can be used to track gas consumption or emissions at facilities.
Fox Thermal customers use our flow meters to proactively monitor their gas emissions and log the data to achieve a positive ESG rating.
