Fox Model FT1 Thermal Gas Mass Flow Meter

The Fox Model FT1 Thermal Gas Mass Flow Meter offered from Fox Thermal Instruments, is the winner of the 2015 Flow Control Innovation Award and the 2015 Processing Breakthrough Product Award.

The Model FT1 is a multiple award winner due to its innovative design elements such as the DDC-Sensor™ technology platform that allows it to operate using the Gas-SelectX® gas menu selection tool.

The Model FT1 measures gas flow rate in standard units (SCFM, NM³/hr, LBS/HR, Kg/Hr & many more) without the need for temperature and pressure compensation.

A free software tool – FT1 View™ - is available for the Model FT1 that allows the user to connect to and configure the FT1 using a PC or laptop.


The free FT1 View™ software from Fox is a great way to connect to the Model FT1 from a PC or laptop to access the meter settings in a quick and visually appealing way. This software offers:

  • Quick access to all configuration parameters using pop-up windows and pull down menus
  • Selection of measurement units, flow and temperature ranges, alarm settings, and more
  • Gas-SelectX® Gas Selection Menu
  • Zero CAL-CHECK® Calibration Validation Certificate
  • Data Logging to a Microsoft® Excel spreadsheet
  • Display of alarm codes
  • Storage of meter configurations to a file that can be archived
  • View raw data that can be used to diagnose or troubleshoot your meter

Note: For FT1 View™ software to function, please be sure to have a working version of Microsoft® Office installed on the PC before installing FT1 View™.

USB Driver and the Fox FT1 View™ Software
A USB driver is needed for FT1 View™ to run. If the USB drive does not install automatically, you will need to download it by following this link. Instructions are included on how to install it correctly.


Zero CAL-CHECK® is a Calibration Validation test feature available on the Model FT1 and FT3 Thermal Mass Flow Meters. This test does the following:

  • Checks for build-up on sensor that could affect calibration
  • Further validates the zero stability of the meter
  • Checks thermal conductivity (heat transfer) repeatability of the sensor

Use this test according to the manufacturer’s instructions in order to validate the calibration of the meter.


Configure the FT1

The Gas-SelectX® feature is a revolutionary new feature that allows the user to have a meter capable of measuring more than 10 different gases accurately. The user can choose from the list of gases below or mix any to create a custom gas mix specifically for their application! Gases currently available with Gas-SelectX® on the FT1 include:

  • Air
  • Argon
  • Butane
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • Helium
  • Hydrogen
  • Methane
  • Natural Gas*
  • Nitrogen
  • Oxygen
  • Propane
  • 3-Gas Mix (proportions must equal 100%)

The Gas Mixes are programmable in 1% increments and up to three of the gases listed above can be mixed. The Gas-SelectX® feature can be accessed through the front panel of the meter or by using the free FT1 View™ software tool.

*Natural gas refers to pipeline-quality dry natural gas, whereas naturally occurring gas from oil fields constitutes a special mixed gas requiring a special calibration. This gas not available for 3-Gas Mix. Contact Fox for further information.
